Best Charlottesville Wedding Venues

Why Charlottesville is One of the Best Places to Get Married

Charlottesville has become one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in Virginia, and after photographing weddings here for years, it’s easy to see why.

Within a short drive, you have vineyards, mountain views, historic estates, gardens, and countryside settings that all feel completely different from one another. That variety gives couples the chance to truly choose a venue that matches their vision, whether that’s something romantic and refined, relaxed and outdoorsy, or classic and timeless.

One of the things I always tell couples is this. Your venue sets the tone for your entire wedding day. It influences everything from the overall experience to how your photos feel years from now.

Below is a curated list of some of the best Charlottesville wedding venues, along with what makes each one unique.

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards

Pippin Hill is one of the most thoughtfully designed venues in the area. It was founded by a retired wedding planner, Lynn Eastpn, so they know exactly what brides are looking for, and how to help you achieve it. Everything about this venue feels intentional, from the layout to the landscaping to the guest experience.

The golden hour light here is incredible, and the property has this soft, romantic feel that gives photographs an ethereal glow.

They’re also known for their culinary program, which is built around locally sourced ingredients and a garden-to-table approach. Pippin Hill is also very committed to sustainability, so if you’re someone with a green thumb, this could be the venue space for you.

King Family Vineyards

King Family is known for its sunsets, and they truly live up to the hype. The light here in the evening is some of the best in the area.

It’s also one of the more versatile venues. You have the option of outdoor ceremonies, a beautiful indoor carriage house, and even a pavilion space that works well for rehearsal dinners. This venue is also designed for year round use, so you are set for a beautiful experience no matter the weather or the season.

King Family also offers a farm to table culinary experience, so you can expect the food on your wedding night to be fresh and delicious!

One of my favorite details is that they’re pet friendly, which makes it a great option if you’re hoping to include your dog in your day.

Veritas Vineyards & Winery

Veritas is a stunning family owned venue that sits on the top of a hill overlooking rows of vines, and the view alone makes it stand out.

From a photography perspective, the leading lines of the vineyard rows and the open landscape create some really clean, timeless images. They also offer ways to incorporate their wine into your guest experience, whether that’s tastings or curated pairings during dinner.

It’s a great balance of scenic beauty and a polished, well-run experience.

Keswick Vineyards

Keswick has a classic estate feel that’s hard to beat. The Edgewood manor brings in that Southern charm, and the fountain is one of those iconic features couples always love.

Their reception tent creates an open, airy atmosphere while still feeling elevated. It’s also one of the more streamlined venues in terms of planning, which can make the entire process feel easier.

If you’re looking for something elegant without being overly complicated, this is a great option.

Castle Hill is one of the most versatile venues in the area. You can choose from a variety of ceremony locations, including open lawns, tree groves, and waterfront views.

The barn is especially unique with its tall ceilings and large windows that bring in natural light.

It’s also a great option for larger weddings and for couples planning multi-day celebrations.

Montalto at Monticello

Montalto offers some of the most sweeping views in the area, along with a deep sense of history.

Being set on a mountaintop gives your wedding day a really unique perspective, both visually and experientially.

Their team is also ready to supply you with many of the different components you need on your wedding day, such as rentals, food, and any extra support you may need.

It’s a great option for couples who want something meaningful, scenic, and distinctly Charlottesville.

Hazy Mountain Vineyards

Hazy Mountain offers some of the most expansive views of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the area. The landscapes here are positively stunning, and because of this, it is one of my favorite locations to photograph.

The architecture here is inspired by Tuscan Wineries, and minus the quintessential Charlottesville Blue Ridge Mountains, you can almost feel as though you’ve been transported to Italy for your big day.

The tasting room, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, allows you to enjoy those views even indoors. Along with this, Hazy Mountain has an in house culinary team, so you’re guaranteed delicious food while you soak in the views.

They also offer on-site accommodations, which makes it a great option for a full wedding weekend experience.

Early Mountain is one of those venues that gives you a little bit of everything. You have rustic elements, refined spaces, fireplaces, gardens, and wide open views.

They also have their own catering team, which makes a big difference in the overall experience. Everything feels cohesive and well thought out.

There’s even a honeymoon cottage on the property, which makes it easy to turn your wedding into a full weekend experience with your closest people.

Mount Ida Farm & Vineyard

One of the things I love most about Mount Ida is how much variety it offers. There are multiple completely different venue options on the same property, from lakeside settings to barn spaces to a more refined lodge feel.

That means you can choose the exact style that fits your vision, while still getting access to the entire property for portraits.

It’s especially great for larger weddings or couples who want that sense of space and flexibility.

Trump Winery

If you’re envisioning something grand and estate-like, Trump Winery offers that elevated feel.

Between the vineyards, the rustic barn setting, and the chapel details, there are a lot of different backdrops to work with throughout the day.

Trump Winery is also the only venue that offers a horse and carriage to take you around the property. So if you’ve dreamed of a fairytale wedding all your life, this might just be the venue for you!

They also own Albemarle Estate, a boutique hotel, which is a stunning and convenient option for loved ones needing a place to stay. This estate is also home to some incredibly beautiful gardens and classical inspired architecture, which lend themselves to great portraits.

It’s a strong choice for couples who want a more formal, classic wedding experience with a variety of settings.

The Market at Grelen

The Market at Grelen is one of the most unique outdoor venues in the area. They’re a nationally recognized garden style venue that operates as an actual tree nursery!

With multiple ceremony locations, including gardens, a berry field, and even a greenhouse, it offers a lot of variety while keeping everything rooted in nature.

The venue is littered with many different gardens, which were designed with European landscaping in mind.

The Market at Grelen also has multiple different on side guest houses, so you have the chance to stay on the property either before or after your wedding, if you so choose.

It’s a great fit for couples who love florals, greenery, and an outdoor-focused experience.

Chiswell Farm & Winery

If you’re drawn to an outdoor wedding with a historic feel, Chiswell is a beautiful option. The estate has a classic Jeffersonian style that feels right at home in Charlottesville.

Everything here is centered around an open-air experience, which gives you a lot of flexibility in how your day flows. I also love that they don’t lock you into a rigid package, so you can really personalize the experience.

It’s a great fit for couples who want something elegant, but still relaxed and customizable.

As an important note, if you’re planning on having your wedding at Chiswell, you do need a day-of wedding coordinator.

The Clifton

The Clifton offers a more intimate estate setting that’s perfect for a full weekend celebration.

You can have your closest family and friends stay on the property, which creates a really relaxed and meaningful experience leading into the wedding day.

Between the gardens, the lake, and even the infinity pool, there are so many beautiful and unique spots for portraits.

The Clifton is also located only 10 minutes outside of Charlottesville, so it’s incredibly convenient for anyone attending who may not be staying on-site.

Barboursville Vineyards

Barboursville is one of the most historic venues in Virginia, and the ruins are truly one of a kind.

The architecture is inspired by those of Tuscan vineyards, and the ruins add to that old age Italian charm.

There’s something about that combination of history, architecture, and open landscape that makes it feel incredibly unique.

If you’re drawn to venues with character and story, this is one that stands out.

Glenmore is a great option if you’re looking for a full-service venue with a polished feel. They have their own ballroom, pavilion, and outdoor ceremony site, which all photograph beautifully.

You have a variety of spaces to work with, from outdoor ceremony sites to indoor reception areas, and their in-house team helps simplify the planning process.

It works well for both smaller gatherings and larger celebrations.

Boar’s Head Resort

Boar’s Head offers a wide range of venue options across the property, which makes it incredibly flexible.

There are tucked-away locations for portraits, like the pond with the willow tree, along with larger spaces for receptions.

Boar’s Head brings an stately countryside feel with that famous southern hospitality everyone wants.

For couples looking for something more modern, The Kimpton Forum Hotel is a great option.

It offers a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, along with the convenience of on-site accommodations for guests.

It’s especially well suited for larger weddings and more contemporary design styles.

The Kimpton is another venue with an on-site culinary team, so you’re guaranteed good food for you and your party.

Valley Road Vineyards

Valley Road has a more relaxed, laid-back feel compared to some of the larger venues.

It’s perfect for smaller weddings or couples who want something simple, scenic, and welcoming.

The mountain views and casual atmosphere make it feel very approachable while still being beautiful.

Valley Road is also located only 20 minutes outside of Charlottesville, which makes for a convenient commute for all of your guests.

Mountain & Vine Vineyards and Winery

This venue has a more European feel with terraced vineyards and a focus on traditional winemaking.

The historic log cabin and farmhouse add a lot of character, especially for getting ready photos.

It’s a great blend of rustic charm and classic vineyard style.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, the best venue is the one that feels like you.

Each of these locations offers something a little different, not just in how it looks, but in how your wedding day will feel. My biggest advice is to think about the experience you want to create, for yourselves and for your guests.

If you’re still deciding, I’m always happy to help guide you based on what you’re envisioning. I’ve photographed weddings at many of these venues and know how each one flows throughout the day.

And that perspective can make all the difference as you start planning.
