With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, we are expecting to see many more proposals! For all of those recently engaged couples, we want to say congratulations on your engagement and cheers to this new life adventure! This is one of the most exciting times in your life and what better way to celebrate this momentous occasion than with a fun engagement session. We are excited to share our Best Engagement Photography of 2020 with you in hopes it will inspire you in planning your own engagement session this year!
I love that engagement sessions give me the chance to get to know you better as a couple prior to the wedding day, and allow us more time to be creative (without the pressure of a wedding timeline). Engagement sessions are also a great opportunity to get to know me as your wedding photographer, and find out your favorite poses/pictures (i.e. do you like pictures where you are dancing, laughing, cuddling, etc.)! And, lastly for anyone who has said their “fiancé doesn’t love taking pictures” I think an engagement session is a must, as they are so much fun and often alleviate any anxieties you have about being in front of the camera before the big day. I have countless grooms who expressed that anxiety before the engagement session, and then afterwards tell me it was the best day!
I often am asked when is the best time do schedule your engagement session, and the simple answer is plan your engagement session as soon after you get engaged as possible. You want the pictures to celebrate this special occasion, and always remind you of this wonderful time. Plus it allows you the opportunity to use the pictures for save-the-dates, your wedding website, to enjoy in your home, and much more! The longer you wait and closer they are to the wedding, then the more the pictures will remind you of wedding planning and less about becoming engaged.
Another great question is where to do your engagement pictures. We have a great post featuring some of the best engagement session locations in Charlottesville. This past year I loved photographing at many of our favorite locations, including a few new ones like Keswick Vineyards! I loved K&D’s summer vineyard engagement session as the vines were in full bloom and the colors were so vibrant! One of the most popular engagement sessions locations among our couples is Ravens Roost Overlook! The views from our Blue Ridge Parkway engagement sessions are hard to beat! I was also thrilled to make a trip to back to Washington, D.C., to photograph some engagement sessions on The National Mall, one of the best locations in DC for engagement photos!
